Walking the Path of Discipleship: What It Truly Means

Explore the heart of discipleship—its meaning, cost, and daily commitment—as taught by Apostle Joe Fincher and rooted in Matthew’s Great Commission.

Walking the Path of Discipleship: What It Truly Means

Introduction: More Than a Believer

Being a Christian isn’t just about believing in Jesus—it’s about following Him. At DAIC Ministries, we believe discipleship is the core of the Christian life. Jesus didn’t just call people to hear His words; He called them to live by them.

The Biblical Call to Discipleship

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gives His followers a clear command:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...”
This wasn't just a suggestion. It was a life-changing invitation to walk in His footsteps, deny ourselves, and carry our cross daily (Luke 9:23).

Discipleship means transformation—it’s a journey of growth, sacrifice, and deep relationship with God.

What Would Jesus Do?

Apostle Joe Fincher, founder of DAIC Ministries, often reminds us that true discipleship begins by asking one simple but powerful question:
“What would Jesus do?”

When faced with decisions, conflicts, or challenges, we are invited to reflect the character and actions of Christ. This mindset shifts how we live, love, and lead.

The Cost of Following Jesus

Jesus was honest: following Him would be costly. It means giving up comfort, popularity, and sometimes even relationships. But the reward is far greater—eternal life, deep joy, and spiritual fruit.

In Luke 14:27-28, Jesus said:

“Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple...”

True discipleship isn't passive—it’s an active, daily commitment.

How DAIC Ministries Equips Disciples

At DAIC, discipleship is not just taught—it’s lived out. Here’s how we help believers grow:

  • New Life Bible Study (every Wednesday) – dig deeper into God’s Word together.

  • WWJD Training – equips people to lead with compassion and boldness.

  • Global Outreach – offers practical mission opportunities that reflect Jesus’ love.

  • Personal Mentorship – connect with mature believers who walk alongside you.

Becoming a Disciple Today

You don’t need to have it all together to follow Jesus—you just need to be willing. Discipleship starts with a “yes” to Jesus and continues with daily faithfulness.

Take a moment today to reflect:
Am I living like a disciple, or just a believer?
